The film premiered at the Max Ophuls Festival 2024 and was shot in Cologne and in the Weserbergland region of Lower Saxony (Emmerthal, Bodenwerder, Heinsen, Holzminden and Polle).
“Jan (23), a shy biology student, loves his animals and has filled his flat with aquariums, terrariums and cages. Alice (23), his fellow student and environmental activist, appreciates his sensitivity. When they fall in love, Jan is overwhelmed by the intense feelings, the social life and the closeness to Alice. His perception becomes distorted and he believes that he must actively combat threats. As Jan slips into a schizophrenic crisis, an intoxicating maelstrom of love and delusion begins, culminating in the decision to start a new life. To Alice’s great despair, Jan falls into a deep depression and flees into the forest.”

She asks herself: Is this where the tendency to play unpredictable, vulnerable characters with macabre games comes from?
Fritz Haarmann, Elektra, Jericho (Children of Olympus), Yvonne, the Burgundian Princess … have adorned her repertoire to date.
Grandad founded the WAZ (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung) and saw his granddaughter become a young writer, but the ‘Blag’ (Ruhr German for child) had a mind of her own.
She played horse, dog and cat on all fours until the proud age of 12 … perhaps that explains her extreme physicality on stage? Fuelled by chips with mayo, of course.
